Santa Rosa, Breakfast with friends, an Article, The book and Writing, Larry, Kathy and the Writers’ Group

It seems I need to apologize again. It has been almost a week since my last post and I have not excuse other than it just slipped my mind. Editing the novel has taken the majority of my time and when I am on a roll, other things just seem to slip away. That means I’ve had another good week of writing. When I don’t I use making an entry for the website as a means of getting my literary juices flowing. Once the words start coming out, they seem to have a life of their own and continue to flow with ease. Didn’t need it this week which explains in a small way, the reason for it slipping my mind.

There was a holiday this past week here in Peru. It was the “Dia de Santa Rosa,” the patron Saint of Lima. That gave a lot of Peruvians who live in Lima a four day weekend. I didn’t run across any real celebrations, some of these holidays involve parades and fireworks. It seems that most stayed home and celebrated with family. Santa Rosa was the first person in the Americas of either sex to be declared a Saint. Here’s a link to information on her in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_of_Lima). It’s an interesting story.

I accomplished a great deal on the book this week. Another four chapters written and one edited and I hope to get two more completed before Monday. My characters continue to grow and change, a couple of them are even trying to take over the book. There are occasions when I have to beat them back with a stick they are so insistent. I’m finally to the point where I can start merging major portions of the first draft into the second draft. Of course a lot of editing will have to happen in those chapters to accommodate one of the characters who didn’t get murdered in the first of the book and a crime event that I added to spice up the action. So far I’m very happy with the way things are going. Work on my other writing projects has slowed a little. I still haven’t touched the two novellas I started and my work on the short stories is down. I did manage to get another article published in LiP along with some photos. Here’s a link to that if you’re interested (http://www.peruthisweek.com/travel-145-Perus-Real-Felipe-fortress-has-history-and-ghosts/ ). I have almost finished another writing goal. My yearly newsletter is 99% complete. I am waiting for a photo from my sister and I need to take a nice group photo here. Another paragraph explaining the writers’ group and I will be done.

I had breakfast with Tim and Lourdes this past Sunday. It’s the first time I’ve seen them since Tim returned from Canada. They seem really happy. Kathy stopped in at Madre Natura after my meeting with Larry. She’s still stressed about her divorce. Larry and I had a good meeting on the book. He took on three chapters; we’ll see how quickly they get done. The Writers’ Group met on Thursday. Victoria, Amanda and I were the only ones in attendance. They offered me some excellent critique on a new short story I had written. I haven’t come up with a title yet but it will be posted next Thursday on the Peru Writer’s Blog. I’ll post a link when that happens. That’s it for this week. Hope all of you have been enjoying life to the fullest. Have a great weekend.
